We are all cherishing the last days of summer and preparing for autumn around the corner. Shops are always ahead of the game, displaying Halloween decorations in the middle of August. It’s crazy to be thinking about Halloween when you’re in a tank top and shorts sweating from the blazing summer heat. I went to Walgreens the other day on the hunt for new displays (what’s new?) and I hit the jackpot. Spotted 3 new limited edition collections, including the Wet n Wild Megalast Matte, Sally Hansen Create & Ornate, and Sally Hansen NYFW Designer Collection. I saw these matte colors with their cool rubberized packaging and of course I picked them all up! Are you ready for this? In order to get the colors to come off as accurate as possible, I had to turn on my flash in front of a bright window, please excuse the image quality. Although this is a matte nail polish collection, I found that they give a semi-matte finish, like a satin. I found that I liked this look better than a matte. You can simply add a matte top coat to any color to give a matte look, but you can’t create a satin finish that easily. Enough of that, now onto what you’ve been waiting for. White nails have been very popular recently, it’s been popping up in fashion too. Loving the black and white look. Here’s a creamy off-white shade named LAC – My Mani. I always like how crisp and clean my nails look whenever I wear a white shade. The hint of cream in this one gives me the clean look with some warm in honor of the warm tones of autumn. To achieve an opaque look, I had to layer on 3 coats. Even then, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the result. I must say, I really liked this color paired with the finish. It’s unlike anything else I have, I believe this fall, we’ll be seeing a great deal of mattes. I like the look, but I’m not thrilled with the formula. LAC – My Mani — 3 coats, no top coat So Berry On Trend is indeed very on trend. Every fall, I love these deep berry shades and I am sure I’m not the only one. I see it everywhere, it’s even starting to pop up now and it’s still summer! I liked the formula on this one, but it took 3 coats to apply evenly onto my nails. This polish is prone to going on a little patchy, but the result is worth the bit of trouble. So Berry On Trend — 3 coats, no top coat A fall collection isn’t complete without a brown polish. Distressed to Impress is a gray tinged brown, it looks very similar to How Great is Your Dane from OPI’s new fall collection. This shade makes me think of coffee candy, mmmmm. I didn’t think I would like this. I’m sure some of you are thinking “what an ugly color,” but dear, you are wrong. On the nails, it transforms into something I have no words for. There’s something about it that made me change my mind. It looked good, really good. If you’re a medium skin tone like myself, you are going to need to pick this one up and try it yourself. It’s less than 2 bucks! Great formula, as opposed to the other two above, I only needed 2 coats. Distressed to Impress — 2 coats, no top coat If you’re looking for something less berry than So Berry On Trend, maybe Careful, It’s Vine-tage will interest you. It’s a plum purple with dustiness and a fantastic formula. Once October rolls around I’m sure I’m going to being sporting this and other colors like it. I have nothing more to say. I’ll let the picture below speak for itself. Careful, It’s Vine-tage — 2 coats, no top coat No matter how many times nail brands come out with deep navy blues, I will probably always buy them. I love this deep dark blue, it’s perfect. Sometimes navy blues will be so dark, it looks like straight up black on your nails. This polish isn’t like that, Echo Dark is not too dark to be mistaken for a simple black, but it’s intense enough to still be a deep dark blue. When worn, it’s actually a little bluer than the in the bottle. Echo Dark has a great formula, 2 coats for opacity. Echo Dark — 2 coats, no top coat Finally, to complete this collection is Rouge 66. A classic siren red paired with a semi-matte finish? Must buy. I’m not a big fan of red nail polish, I just don’t like the way it looks on me. I do however love looking at it (on others), it is after all timeless. What’s interesting about this nail polish is the finish, it doesn’t have that normal glass-like shine that women have always loved. The matte look gives it an edge, a more modern take to the classic. It’s the one color that’s not dark or neutral, it’s bright and in your face. In 2 easy coats, you get a siren red with some extra sass. Rouge 66 — 2 coats, no top coat One thing I want to be sure to point out is the brush on all the Megalast nail polishes. They all have what they call a “ManiCurve Pro Brush” It’s a big thick brush that aims to make painting your nails faster and easier. There is a bit of a learning curve to figure out the best way to hold the brush. Once you get used to it, it is so fast. I can paint my entire nail with a swipe. If these polishes from this collection aren’t quite your taste, check out the core collection. Some of my favorites are I Need A Refresh-Mint, Club Havana, and On A Trip. Here’s a pic of the brush, featuring Rouge 66. The brush on these babies are almost the size of my nails. If I let the brush fan out, it get’s my whole thumb nail! Make sure you check out these new matte colors from Wet n Wild. They’re less than $2 and with some coupons and sales, you could grab them up for less. Thank goodness for drugstores! I’m glad we are able grab quality items at a low price, thanks to brands like Wet n Wild. Matte nails are going to be HOT for fall. At this price, you can afford to grab ’em all!
