Brown nail polish doesn’t get enough love. I think it is a beautiful color and people need to branch out of their comfort zones from time to time and give it a chance. OPI knew just what to do by adding some sparkle and shimmer to this deep chocolate brown, nearly black polish.

What actually drew me to this polish was that it reminded me of a brown alternative to OPI Give Me Space from their recent holiday collection. I love that polish so much it made it to my Top 15 for 2015 list/blog post and it has been my go-to this past month. So when I spotted My Private Jet, I knew I had to have it. At the time, I had no idea when it was released, nor that it had such a complex history. I just knew it had to be mine!

Keep reading for some pics and a little info on this smoky chocolate.

The original version released in 2007 of My Private Jet had a beautiful scattered holo that stood out. Now the new version has a much muted holographic quality. The formula of the previous one was very thin and needed to be built up, this new one is quite opaque. That doesn’t justify that the company decided to secretly switch the old with the new and take away its special rainbow-reflecting holo-ness!

Although it’s not the original, this is still beautiful. The formula is amazing, I got away with one coat. It went on so smoothly and easily, the perfect consistency. The base color isn’t a flat chocolate brown, there’s a deep red flash that gives it an interesting twist.

The shimmer in this polish has OPI written all over it. It’s their signature shimmer style. The particles are very small and delicate and packed throughout the formula, as I mentioned before, very similar to Give Me Space. Although the shimmer is a holographic shimmer, it is really hard to tell unless you are up close and personally under a source of light. In most lighting, the shimmer will look pewter/silver, giving it a nice smokey charcoal-like look.

Even without top coat, this had a nice shine.

1 coat, no top coat

1 coat, w/top coat

Now take another look with the flash on. Now you can see that cranberry flash and the holo bits prancing about.

I had only just recently picked this up, so if you’re interested in this baby, it’s available on the Sally Beauty website for $9.99 or get it on Amazon for the lower and better price of $6.50.

Please don’t knock this for not being the same as its older more famous sister, this new version is just as beautiful and deserves some love too! It’s a one coater with some stunning dimension!

I love this polish!! It holds a very special place in my heart because my mother-in-law gave me this and DS Coronation for Christmas many years ago. I hadn’t even heard of OPI or any of the other salon brands like Zoya or Essie until she gave me these two (plus a red Zoya mini she gave me the following year). Back in that day, I loved dark colors more than bright colors so this was right up my alley!! I don’t think she knows that she gave me my first OPIs 🙂 Great choice, even if it’s not the original it’s still a beautiful color.

Wow, what a beautiful beginning! So glad to see I picked up something everyone’s such a fan of! For now, I’ll just have to make do with a holo top coat, until I can manage to somehow get my hands on the elusive original formula. Haha (:
