Before I begin, Happy Canada Day to our friends up north!
To continue on with our red, white and blue series in honor of Independence Day, I’m going to add a indie polish to the mix. I placed an order for a couple of Serum No. 5’s glitter polishes. The first of the two is this one, First Colors. This polish first made its debut last year. I have seen swatches of this beauty for some time now and have been waiting for it to come back in stock. Once I saw that it was going to restocked, I placed my order! Serum No. 5 is one of my favorite indie brands, so I’m happy to add more to my small collection.
First Colors isn’t your normal red, white and blue glitter. In this opaque milky white base are metallic red, blue & holographic yellow gold hex glitters of various small sizes. Application was effortless, the glitter is densely packed so there was no need for fishing. I used three coats for my swatches, but I could have gotten away with just two. I wanted max glitter coverage, so I added the third coat. Due to the abundance of glitter, I would advise a generous layer (or two) of top coat to smooth those glitter bumps down.
I am in love with the way this looks. I always have a weak spot of glitter polishes with milky white bases. They always look so fresh and cheery. The name First Colors works perfectly because of the red, blue and yellow mix; the primary colors waltz in a white base. If you’re looking for a red, white and blue polish that isn’t just those colors, this is a good candidate.
First Colors- 3 coats, no top coat
First Colors- 3 coats, w/top coat
I wouldn’t mind wearing this all year because the red, white and blue don’t hold center stage. I feel that whenever I wear those types of polishes, it’s a little too loud for me. It’s like saying “I’m American and I want you ALL to know!” I am all for being patriotic, but I don’t want others to think I’m being arrogant.
If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, First Colors is a good start. I would recommend this to anyone! Serum No. 5 is most known for their amazing glow in the dark polishes. Each purchase goes toward a charitable donation, thus, “Beauty with Heart.” Here’s a link straight to their website. There’s more Serum No. 5 coming! I will be reviewing another polish from the brand tomorrow! Here’s a sneak peek:
Have you seen the other polishes part of my red, white and blue series? If you haven’t, check them all out here! Come back tomorrow for a look at the second Serum No. 5 polish I purchased from this order!
