This year, the holiday sets were pretty good. There was a great assortment of gift sets with a variety of products. On the nail side of the spectrum, I was tempted by a bunch of different sets and spent a couple of hours at Sephora looking at the different brands. The holiday season is the perfect time to try out more luxurious brands at a fraction of the price. This year, I managed to snap up this Nails Inc set on sale for under $30. For a set of 6 high quality polishes, I’d say that’s a fantastic deal! I wanted to try the Gel Effect line from them for a while now and it was a set deal after I saw the colors!
The Nails Inc Gel Effect polishes are supposed to look just like gel without the hassle. Thanks to the innovative “placticiser technology,” your nails will look plump and glossy like gel. Gel effect nail polishes are popping up everywhere, even at the drugstore. Keep reading to see if these truly give a gel effect and if they’re worth the splurge.
The first from the set and my very favorite is Uptown. This pinky nude needs just 2 coats and application was flawless (#flawless). I also noticed these don’t have an intoicating nail polish scent, it’s a soft sweet scent that’s actually pleasant. It’s a change I could get used to! Uptown is my new go-to pinky nude for sure. It dries so glossy! If you thought the Essie Dress to Kilt collection was glossy, these blow those out of the water!

A similar polish is Zoya’s Rue, which is a tad lighter. Uptown contains more pink, whereas Rue has more of a nude look.

Now to show a dark shade from the set. Grosvenor Crescent is a vampy black cherry with an ultra glossy finish. The gloss doesn’t impress me as much as Uptown since darker colors are generally more glossy that lighter ones. This color is unique, it’s almost black. There’s a hint of cherry that peaks out every now again. This mysterious shade is beautiful.

Brown hued pinks and purples are becoming more popular in the beauty world. Due to the “Kylie Jenner lip,” this vintage trend is coming back in full force. It was even named the 2015 Color of the Year. Marsala is a color that we will be seeing a lot more of! New Oxford Street follows this trend, with some chocolate hues mixed in. New Oxford Street is a chocolatey dusty marsala color that’s surprisingly flattering.

Purpley blues always catch my eye and Old Bond Street did just that. It was one of the polishes I eyed when I saw this set in stores. This super glossy indigo blue does not disappoint! The formula is on point too.
Old Bond Street- 2 coats, no top coat
Here’s comparison of Old Bond Street and Do You Have This Color in Stock-holm? (OPI Fall 2014). They are completely different. Old Bond Street is darker with more indigo while Do You Have This Color in Stock-holm has more purple and is more of a vibrant purpley blue.

Not all the polishes in this set are cremes. Piccadilly Place is the one and only glitter polish included in this set. It’s delicately dense with white, pink, green and holographic silver glitter. It’s packed with glitter, but more of the glitter is a fine texture. Take a look below, pictures are clearer than words. I laid it over Out Like A Light, a fantastic charcoal gray from the China Glaze Twinkle collection with a great formula.

Piccadilly Place and Shaved Nice from Nicole by OPI are exact dupes. I have both so I can probably do without one… I’m not sure which I should get rid of…

The sixth and last is The Boltons, a red with light shimmer. I’m not big on wearing red nail polish, but if I ever want to start, it’s very likely I would choose this one. It’s a stunning red. This is what I would call a luxe red.

These Nails Inc Gel Effect polishes really live up to their name. The formula is wonderful. It’s extremely easy to use, they have a pleasantly mild sweet scent you appreciate that really makes the painting experience more enjoyable. These really do provide all the beauty of a gel manicure without the trouble of the pesky removal process.
The formula is on the thicker side but it’s very easy to get used to and maneuver. As for lasting power, I wore Old Bond Street for a solid week and when I went to remove it there were only some minor tip wear. Yay!
Since this was a holiday gift set, they are no longer available. You can, however, pick up Nails Inc Gel Effect polishes anywhere Nails Inc is sold. I know I am going to hit up Sephora and grab a few. That may not be very soon though, since they are $14 a pop… Although they’re more expensive than the drugstore gel effect polishes, they really perform and are totally worth it! If you’re looking for a polish with a true gel-like finish, give these a try!
