Fall Picks | 2017

Why wait for New Year’s for a New Year’s resolution? I want to start back up this blog and I want it to do well. No more putting it off to the side. My severed nail is all healed and my hands are itchin’ for some swatchin’. What better way to get back in the groove of things than to pick out some of my favorites for fall and share it with you?

Last year was when I started really experimenting with ‘ugly pretty’ colors. You know the ones I’m talking about, the pukey greens, pumpkin puree orange-browns, yea, the colors that are typically UGLY—that is, until this magical time of the year. YES. When the leaves start falling to the brown and I start wrapping up burrito-style in my sheets, that’s when ‘ugly pretty’ shades reign supreme.

Ugly has never looked so flattering.

Ah, I have missed blogging. I hope you still find me (somewhat) entertaining!

I’ve picked out ten polishes and I think I’ve covered all my bases. I am sure there is something for everyone, even for those who work in a conservative environment, I have some office-friendly choices up your alley.

Starting off the list is OPI Turn On the Northern Lights. This deep purple, leaning navy is decked out in golden fuchsia shimmer. This is from OPI’s Iceland Collection for Fall/Winter this year. I didn’t grab many from this collection and this is one I just knew I needed. Can you blame me? Oooooh when that golden shimmer catches the light, exquisite.

For those who need a polish that lasts, this is also available in OPI’s Infinite Shine formula.

Purple is my color, so I couldn’t just have one lone purple on this list. Essie Twill Seeker is a dusty purple with teal shimmer. Take a second and let that sink in. A grayed out plum with a sprinkle of shimmery teal goodness? GIVE IT TO ME. This is part of Essie’s Gel Couture line so it’s wonderfully glossy and lasts. If you haven’t tried this formula yet, this is a great polish to start with! Did I mention that unlike the tradition Essie brush, this one’s lusciously thick?! Practically one swipe to cover your entire nail!

To accompany the autumn foliage, paint your nails with OPI It’s a Piazza Cake. This polish was released in OPI’s Venice Collection for F/W 2015 and it’s made its way on several of my favorites lists, including last year’s Fall Picks and 2015’s Yearly Favorites. If that doesn’t convey my love for this polish, I don’t know what will!

This ‘ugly pretty’ polish is pumpkin spice meets cayenne pepper. Try it!

Essie Miss Fancy Pants has stood through the test of time. It’s always been one of my fall staples and for good reason. This creamy taupe is fantastic for when you want something you can easily throw one without the fear of clashing with your outfit of accessories. Perfect for the office worker. It’s in the nude family so your fingers look longer and it’s flattering on every skin tone.

If you can’t get your hands Miss Fancy Pants, try Chinchilly, another Essie classic similar in color.

Olive will forever be a fall favorite. Last year, every trendy garment was in this color. It’s died down since then and we’re seeing more beigey blush tones this year, but camo print is still very much alive. For an instant tough girl appeal, try OPI Suzi – The First Lady of Nails.

An alternative is Zoya Charli from the Focus Collection. Zoya’s going to have a 50% off sale for Black Friday, so I thought I would mention it to justify buying more polish and help you save some money (to buy MORE polish)!

Let your polish do all the talking and dazzle with OPI Just Spotted the Lizard. This green/gold duochrome is a great statement polish. It’s not your standard gold, the green gives it a different profile. I love that in some lights, it can look bronzey. I can guarantee you are going to garner a lot of attention with this one! Wear it out and let the compliments flow in.

An alternative is Zoya Aggie (review). This polish is very similar and much easier to get a hold of.

This time of year, we tend to wear darker colors. I’d say 90% of my wardrobe consists of the color black. I like throwing a pop of color every now and then, and I feel the easiest way is with a statement shade of polish. That’s when I turn to a trusty bright blue, cue Zoya Sia. This polish is nearly a one coater and it’s bold without blinding your friends!

Don’t worry office girl, I have another pick for you that isn’t quite so boring. OPI Check Out the Old Geysirs is a muted blue with subtle blue shimmer. The shimmer is softer than the other shimmer polishes I’ve featured, so if you just want to dip your toes in the world of shifty shimmer, this is the way to do it. This polish gives a delicate look to your nails without going the traditional route of a pale pink.

I gotta show some support to one of my favorite indie polish makers, Different Dimension. This year, I was wowed by Not in the Loop. Just as described on the site, it’s a “moss yellow jelly polish with added contrasting shimmers”. This is the epitome of ‘ugly pretty’!

It’s a limited edition polish so if you like it, snatch it up before it’s gone!

The last on the list is Revlon High Stakes from the Colorstay Gel Envy line. Hit up your local drugstore to grab this and even better, wait for a deal to score this for even less! This line has some of the best drugstore polish around! This deep jade green dries ultra glossy. I love pairing shades of green like this with mustard cozy knits, try this combination!

Those were my fall polish picks for 2017. I hope you venture out of your comfort zone and try something front this list, or that I’ve inspired you to take a chance on a color you wouldn’t typically use. Dig into some ‘ugly pretty’ shades, or shimmy into some shimmers. There’s nothing like some shimmer to amplify your fall nail wardrobe. Don’t forget to check out Different Dimensions, these indie polishes are some of my favorite. Every time I visit their site, I end up having a whole cart full of gorgeous polishes, I’ve never been disappointed by their stuff.

I noticed that many of my picks are OPI, that wasn’t intentional but as luck would have it, ULTA Beauty will be having a sale on OPI for Black Friday! $5 each polish! YAY! Also for Black Friday, Zoya‘s having a 50% off! CHECK IT OUT! Take a look at the Zoya polishes I recommended in place of some of the polishes I mentioned. Phenomenal polish for a phenomenal price?! More items to add on to that growing Black Friday list!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! As always, thank you for your continued support and I am thankful for YOU!
