Fall Picks | 2016

Today’s the first day of fall? Oh, then this post couldn’t have better timing! I’ll be sharing my top 10 polish picks for fall. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people that don’t jump for joy for a PSL, so this is how I choose to get into the fall spirit.

I have tons and tons of polish and recently as I was sorting through my collection, trying to pick out some candidates for this post. I ended up pulling out more than half of my entire stash! I really needed to buckle down and pick my top 10.

This is the season when the ugliest of colors are the most beautiful. You know exactly what I’m talking about! This season is when mustard, pukey green, burnt orange and every shade of brown come out to play. So expect some “pretty ugly” colors in this post! That being said, there’s a little bit of something for everyone, not just the pretty uglies. Hope you enjoy!

What color pops in your mind when you think of fall? For me, that’s berry/wine tones. For years now, whenever I wanted a berry, I would go for Revlon Bold Sangria. This is more of an eggplant, a shade that still exhibits a feminine quality despite it being such a bold, vampy color.

This was part of Revlon’s Colorstay line and has been discontinued, but don’t fret! The new Colorstay Gel Envy line has a polish very similar named High Roller that looks to be identical to Bold Sangria! Don’t forget, this is a drugstore polish so wait for those amazing drugstore deals and pick out a few!

If you prefer something more berry and vibrant, one of my favorites is OPI Casino Royale. It was released in 2013 part of the Skyfall collection so it is a little tough to get your hands on, however, OPI Anti-Bleak is a great dupe.

What’s next? Pumpkin spice everything has taken over our coffee shops, supermarkets, homes and now our nails. Don’t worry, we’re not talking about looking like an oompa loompa. OPI It’s a Piazza Cake is a tastefully down burnt spice orange that resembles fall foliage. It was released last year and I couldn’t get enough of it! Here’s my review of the collection. It’s a color that you would normally never go for, but give it a try and you might enjoy it! I especially like pairing this with neutrals, such as a cozy griege sweater, my favorite jeans or leggings and a pair of brown ankle boots. Let your nails act as the statement piece.

Easily available at places that sell OPI and for even more convenience, try Amazon. The price is much better on Amazon for $6.49!

Green is my favorite fall color. During this time of year, I will frequently turn to my mossy, gritty greens. Here are three of my favorites that satisfy all my green needs: Zoya Charli, Essie Fall in Line and Zoya Hunter.

img_2648

Charli is a mossy camo green I pull out when I don’t feel like being girly. There’s no need to work with this formula, just one coat and you’re all set! Bring out your inner tomboy with this one.

If you want something less on the beige side of mossy, here’s a jade substitute. Essie Fall in Line is one of the stand-outs from the Dress to Kilt Fall 2014 collection. It boasts a one coat formula and this dusty green is perfect for when you’re trying to inch your way into the darker shades.

Essie has a number of polishes in their range that are similar, but out of them all, this one has the best formula. If you want to see a comparison to School of Hard Rocks and Vested Interest, check out my original post on the collection here. Don’t forget it’s from 2014, so I am well aware that there is much to be improved in that post!

Now for those looking for the perfect hunter green, the search stops here. Zoya Hunter, quite a fitting name, is the one for you. The formula on this one is thinner than the other cremes. You’ll need 2 coats of this one, but it is well worth it. It dries nice and glossy. I really like taking this one out when the weather gets crisp.

If you lucked out and couldn’t get your hands on Sally Hansen Ever Green and have been pining after it since, try HunterHunter is a touch darker, but you get the same overall effect on the nail.

Think cozy. I bet your mind floated over to warm neutrals right? Essie Miss Fancy Pants is the polish I instantly think of. It’s been through countless years of fall with me and it will always be a staple. It’s a classic.

Many people often choose Chinchilly for their go to greige, but for me, Miss Fancy Pants takes the cake. It’s warmer, which complement my warm skin tone. If you’re warm like me, go for Miss Fancy Pants, otherwise, try Chinchilly.

I can’t make a list of fall staples without including a navy. It’s another one from the drugstore and it’s only $2! Sinful Colors Rain Storm is a dusty blue with a fabulously pigmented formula. So dang creamy and just 2 bucks! It’s a unique shade of blue and separates itself from all the other blues I own. When apply, you will not even be able to believe that you got it for such an amazing price!

The next time you’re at a store that sells Sinful Colors, pick this one up! If you can find it at Walgreens during one of their Sinful Colors sales, that would certainly be a deal to jump on. If you can’t find it or you just can’t wait, it’s on Target’s site for $2.02.

Everything I’ve shared so far has been cremes, can you blame me though? Nothing is better than a creme done right. The joy of a one coat creme is like no other. Let me hand the spotlight to a shimmer that I feel doesn’t get enough love. Essie Coat Couture is a smokey purplish gray with teal shimmer. It is so unique and understated. This is from Essie’s cashmere matte line. I love that they paired this shimmer with a cashmere matte finish. The shimmer and matte finish brings a wonderful contrasting effect that I fell in love with. You can of course add a glossy top coat if you want to, but this is the season where matte is welcomed with open arms!

For a blingy-er alternative, here is a metallic to quench your chrome thirst. There’s been a chrome outbreak lately and I know many of us really want that beautiful mirror finish, but we don’t want to get gel nails. Essie Penny Talk is a great traditional polish option. Despite being named Penny Talk, this is more of a rose gold than a copper.

This came out when rose gold was just starting to take over our lives and now it’s made it all the way to the top with its rivals silver and gold. It’s still one of the best rose gold polishes, even with all these options flooding the market.

To round out this list is another effect polish, Color Club Burnt Out. It’s a multichrome that you need to own. When the Color Club Oil Slick collection first came out, I went crazy over them! You may have seen a duochrome before, but you have not witnessed one like this. I guarantee you’ll be fascinated by this. You’ll sit and stare at your nails, admiring all the pretty colors and never wanting to remove your polish. Please, do yourself a favor and get this. Also take a look at my original post on this collection!

This polish made my camera freak out, you truly cannot capture the brilliance of these Oil Slick polishes. You need to get your hands on these to see just how unbelievably stunning these are!

It was released for a limited time, but it seems like Color Club has let them stick around. You can find it on Amazon for $8 and HB Beauty Bar for $8.50, they always have coupon codes and free shipping!
