Essie Virgin Snow Collection for Winter 2015

Now that Halloween’s over and done with, it seems stores have completely skipped over November and jumped to displaying Christmas decorations already. Have we forgotten the rest of the fall and hopped on over to winter?

After such success with the Essie Leggy Legend for fall collection, I thought I would dabble into the new winter collection. I was looking for colors that would blow me away just as much as the fall polishes. From the six polishes, I only picked up two. I’m happy with my choices. I was thrilled to pick these two up and even though the others weren’t my taste, these have gotten me very very excited.

The other four polishes were a silver (Apres-Chic), a powder pink (Peak Show), a pinky red (Altitude Attitude) and a darker seductive ruby red (Shall We Chalet?). I find that because every brand seems to be releasing silvers these days, I have enough to last nearly a lifetime so I didn’t need another. I rarely reach for light pinks and they generally don’t have very good formulas so I didn’t want to bother taking the gamble on it. Though, if I hear great things about it, I’ll let you know and I’ll be picking one up. The other two, I’m just going to reiterate that I just don’t find reds flattering on myself.

Right when I saw these were in stock, I made a beeline to get to Virgin Snow. I couldn’t help it, something about a pale pastel in an Essie bottle does something to me. Please tell me I’m not alone in this? Their bottle design is perfect paired with these dainty colors. Virgin Snow is also a color that I feel I have never seen before.

This pale lavender had a pretty good formula. It was a tad streaky on the first coat but it built up just fine on the second. I would have liked it if it had been a little creamier with a formula similar to some of the polishes Essie’s been pumping out recently. Although it’s formula isn’t superb, this color is.

Essie says, “pure. untouched. pristine. this icy frozen lavender is just waiting to be discovered.”

It’s lighter, more blue or more purple than any other colors I thought looked to be close. Here’s a look at it next to other Essie’s I own that are comparable.

(L-R) Lilacism, Virgin Snow, Salt Water Happy, Bikini So Teeny

Out of these 4 polishes, Salt Water Happy is the most like Virgin Snow, so I thought I would paint it on to see just how similar they are on the nail. They are so close, yet so far apart! Salt Water Happy is more blue. All the other polishes were far more blue or purple.

My second pick is Haute Tub. This has a black creme base with fuchsia flecky shimmer. It’s interesting how the base is so pigmented, yet the shimmer still shows through perfectly. In the bottle, the shimmer is more intense than it is on the nails. The purple stands out and it’s stronger than it looks in the photos below! My camera just did not do this justice! Mysterious, wondrous and unique.

The formula reminds me of Frock ‘n Roll from Essie’s last collection for fall. A creamy base with shimmer beautifully done. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you must take a look at that amazing collection here.

Essie says, “turn up the fashion heat and take the plunge in indulgent jet black with amethyst fire.”

I’m very happy with these two polishes. I’m glad I decided to skip out of the others and I’m sure that even if I had the full collection, I would pick these two as my top choices. At first glance, Virgin Snow may not look very unique but I have found that nothing else compares to this soft pale purple. Don’t count out Haute Tub. This polish is a must have! If you get anything from this collection, this is the one to get.

These two are the ones that caught my eye!! For some reason I can’t see the picture where you compare Virgin Snow to the other polishes, so I’ll have to check it out on my phone or something, but I need to add these to my never ending wish list! Even though I don’t always comment on your posts, I always read them. Thanks for all of the work that you put into posting them! 🙂
