Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Lunar New Year! Being born in America, we ABC’s (American Born Chinese) tend to lose touch with our background. I have always tried to hold onto my Chinese roots as best I could and enjoy learning about my heritage. I look forward to celebrating this holiday every year with amazing family and great food. Of course I gotta be honest, red envelopes are also on my mind!

Chinese New Year is a holiday full of RED. Red everything, everywhere. I’m not really into wearing a completely red outfit, but to celebrate, I did a nail look to represent and welcome the new year.

If you’re doing a CNY (Chinese New Year) look, you gotta make sure to incorporate tons of red. Red symbolizes good fortune and joy in Chinese culture. I chose to add in some gold for an extra dose of luck. The polishes I used were Zoya Arianna, a blue-toned red Ultra PixieDust, Zoya India, a red with gold shimmer throughout from the fall Ignite collection, and Goldeneye from OPI’s Bond collection a few years ago.

This is a very bold look; something I don’t go for very often. It is new year after all, so there’s no holding back. I chose to use Arianna for an accent on my index finger. Then I painted India on the rest. At first, this was how I was going to keep it, but I felt like there was something missing. I decided I needed a gold polish to crank up the intensity of India, so I grabbed one that matched the gold in IndiaGoldeneye was a perfect match. I swiped one stripe alone the side of each nail and that was it! Pretty easy, if you ask me.

It looks a great deal more interesting in natural light. The glitter from Arianna pops with dimension and the gold shimmer in India is striking.

Happy Lunar New Year once again! Be sure to start your day off with something sugary to ensure the rest of your year will be just as sweet. I cannot wait to see the lion dancing this weekend! 新年快乐! May this new year bring happiness and prosperity to you and your family.
