August Favorites | 2016

August has passed and gone, but just because some time has passed, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t share with you my favorites during the month. This was sitting in my drafts and I put off making it public. It was a big step for me to even return back to blogging, swatching and polishing. I decided it was time I finally click “publish” and share with you some great polishes that deserve some recognition!

So, here goes:

It’s been a longggg time. I apologize for my absence, these past months have been a journey for me. I’ve straightened some things out, or well, smoothed out some rough patches. I’ve missed sharing my love of polish. I’m slowly getting back into geeking out over nail polish and take that as a sign for me to start blogging again! To ease back into things, today I’ll be sharing my picks for this month.

I didn’t paint my nails very much this summer. After months of neglect, I felt like my nails needed some pampering at the start of this month. I sifted through my collection and pulled out colors that I crave for during the summer. That way all the polishes I wanted to use would be in one place. So in the month of August, I rediscovered not only my love of lacquer, but also some all-time favorites.

You can’t skip on neons during the summer. Lime After Lime was released in the China Glaze Lite Brites for Summer 2016 collection. I’ve been loving the pastel neon shades brands have been putting out these recent summers and this one fits the bill quite nicely. I love that this is so bold, yet it’s cooled down with the pastel quality of this polish. Did I mention this only needs 2 coats? For a polish with so much white in the formula, this is unheard of! So creamy and perfect to top off the season.

I went very out of the box for this next one. You wouldn’t expect such a dark color in the sweltering heat right? Well, you’d be surprised. I had this shade on my toes and it lasted for the whole month of August! I never got bored of it. This deep lush green, Off Tropic, is a breath of fresh air. After using so many brights, it’s nice to twist things up with this unexpected pick.

The formula of this is amazing! One coat of creamy goodness. This polish was actually released in Essie’s most recent spring collection, the Lounge Lover collection. This also dries with a natural glossy finish.

What better way to contrast the last number than with something light and pale? Cue in my next favorite, Let’s Be Friends. This was from the Hello Kitty collection from OPI. In the realm of pale pinks, the formula of this one is by far the best I’ve ever used. They’re usually so difficult to work with and tend to be streaky, but this one’s different. The streaks even out on their own, just remember to float the brush! Depending on how thick you like your coats, you’ll need 2 or 3 for opacity.

Just like I mentioned with Off Tropic, this is another polish that I loved to use when I wanted to mix things up from all the brights I was using.

This next polish has earned a place as one of my top polishes of all time. This color is timeless. I can use it any time of the year and it’ll still work. I LOVE it. Mom Jeans from Glitter Daze is the indie polish to get if you’re looking for something to get you started in the indie world. The formula is impeccable. One coat. The color is dazzling, after all, they are named Glitter Daze. Hah, I couldn’t resist! I cannot stop gushing about this. When I have this on, I remember why I fell in love with polish in the first place. It’s just THAT good. You need it if you don’t have it.

There is no other substitute. Get it! I know it has a higher price tag at $10 but you’re supporting a smaller business with quality products. It’s almost the same price as an OPI polish and I would choose this over any OPI I own. That is how serious I am, and that’s how much I love this polish. The formula and color are beautiful. It’s worth it! You will love this.

This was released last year but it’s still on the Glitter Daze website. I’m not sure for how long, however I wouldn’t sleep on this. Get it before you regret it!

This polish is another one from the China Glaze Lite Brites collection from this summer. Let’s Jam is the polish from the collection that instantly caught my eye. This is the one I knew I had to have, but I didn’t go out right away to get it. These past months, I took a break from polish and I didn’t go out to buy new collections. I only recently purchased this. I was on a trip to Sally’s and I peeked into the clearance bins and found this for $3! Now it’s happily in the place where it belongs, with me!

This polish self-levels and the purple stealth shimmer gives a glossy effect from afar. It has a more liquidy consistency, not as creamy. At first I doubted it would be opaque in just 2 coats, but I was proven wrong. 2 coats was perfect. This dries a little dull, so put on a top coat to bring this one to life.

More purple! I think you can tell I have a thing with purple, can’t you? Bikini So Teeny is the summer polish. You can’t get through the season without putting it on at least once. It’s not summer without it. I love it on my fingernails and on my toes. It’s one of those shades no one can possibly hate. So pretty. So feminine and most importantly, not pink!

I’m not the biggest fan of pink… There are exceptions to the rule, but if you’ve been here long enough, or stick around, you’ll start to see I’m extremely selective when it comes to shades of pink.

Anyway, this is a classic. If you don’t have this, where have you been? Living under a rock, I presume.

Thanks to these 6 fabulous polishes, I’ve reignited my passion. Now I need to get my butt back in the game and check out some of the new releases! I really hope you check these out if you haven’t, or this inspired you to pull them out if you already own them. Enjoy these last days of summer!
